Fiber, especially soluble, fermentable fiber, has various health benefits.
First of all it functions as a prebiotic, feeding the friendly bacteria in the intestine.
Soluble fiber can also be used in many cases of constipation, which due to the bad eating habits of the population is a very common problem today.
There is also documented evidence that fiber can slow down the absorption of carbohydrates keeping us from getting a quick burst of energy followed by a drastic crash which helps us stay balanced and alert longer and help us feel more satisfied with fewer calories.
Along with crucially needed vitamins and minerals, the fiber that is found naturally in any foods is often lost during processing, or intentionally removed. Therefore, while you might think that you are getting the fiber you need to keep your body running smoothly, most foods when processed end up with a very low fiber content.
In conclusion: Soluble, fermentable fiber has various important health benefits for the body, but due to the processing of foods such fiber is lost or intentionally removed during processing.
