Walking is a great activity for those who suffer from Arthritis as well as for stress relief, weight loss and many other ongoing health conditions.
For a lot of people that live in warm weather conditions it is also highly accessible, for those that experience harsh winters and need to stay outside, a treadmill or an elliptical machine would be a good investment.
With a good and comfortable pair of shoes and a safe walking environment (inside or outside), most people can achieve mental relief, proper oxygenation into the lungs, relief from arthritic knees, by keeping the blood pumping through the legs and of course the possibility of weight loss.
Walking is a great alternative to other more difficult activities and provides you with the ability to break away from the daily routine and clear your head.
The CDC’s Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans: 2nd Edition suggests for substantial health benefits, adults should perform at least 150–300 minutes a week of moderate-intensity (20 to 40 minutes a day), 75–150 minutes a week of vigorous-intensity (15 minutes a day), or an equivalent combination of moderate- and vigorous-intensity aerobic activity. Preferably, aerobic activity should be spread throughout the week.
A moderate physical activity, like walking, can also improve a person’s cognition (thinking), while decreasing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress.
