Maintaining weight loss requires making lifestyle changes and correct food choices. To stay motivated to eat the right things and lose weight:
Find people who support you. Peer and social support are an important part of keeping your eating goals on track. Programs like Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers (even though they’re diets) use group support to impact weight loss and lifelong healthy eating because they understand their importance. Try to find the right support for you, whether in the form of family, friends, or a support group. It also helps when you talk to others about healthy eating and plant a seed.
Take your time. Trying to lose weight too fast usually ends up with the same result… gaining it all back plus more. Give your body the time to get adjusted to the loss and it will be worth your patience. Lose weight correctly by giving your body the nutrients it requires daily to avoid losing muscle instead of fat.
Understand the validity of your goals. Setting unrealistic goals just leads to failure. Set goals that you know you will have a chance at obtaining, and that will keep you motivated.
Lifestyle changing goals work the best. Wanting to lose weight because of an upcoming birthday or wedding or some sort of event are not solid goals and your body and mind will just feel punished… then you’ll gain it all back and more.
