The “hyper-rewarding” nature of processed foods has been causing serious consequences for people all over the world. Most of the world’s population live in countries where overweight and obesity kills more people than under-weight.
An estimated 160 million Americans are either obese or overweight. Nearly three-quarters of American men and more than 60% of women are obese or overweight.
Childhood Overweight and Obesity. Obesity now affects 1 in 5 children and adolescents in the United States. Wikipedia
People have literally become addicted to this stuff and have completely lost control over their consumption. The addicting qualities of manufactured food has put the whole world at risk.
Although food addiction is something that most people refuse to acknowledge, it is a fact that it has been a devastating situation in today’s society. It happened with cigarettes in the 20’s and beyond with addicting chemicals induced in every cigarette and now we are turning our heads to the manufactured food with the same problem.
Addiction is the main reason why some people just can’t stop eating these foods, no matter how hard they try. Addiction is hard to overcome and 60% of America are walking addicts. This addiction is like a scene from a zombie movie, but it’s true we have a society of unconscious walking addicts.
People have had their brain biochemistry hijacked by the intense dopamine release that occurs in the brain when these chemically processed foods are consumed.
This is actually supported by many studies. Sugar and highly rewarding junk foods activate the same areas in the brain as drugs of abuse like cocaine.
In conclusion: We have become a society of unconscious addicts. It is up to us to reverse this before it’s too late.
